Equal Rights for Women in Technology
There have been a number of recent posts in the blog world addressing the fundamentally important issue of equal rights and opportunities for women in technology, and in particular, the current state of their relative lack of inclusion with respect to involvement, participation and contributions at technology conferences and events
Sarah Blow (UK software engineer and Founder, London Girls Geek Dinners) has just addressed this issue in a magnificent post. Sarah's post includes three good references: an excellent post by Leisa Reichelt and a somewhat problematic (for me) post by Robert Scoble (The 74 comments to-date associated with Robert's post makes for very interesting reading), also an on-point podcast from the recent London BarCamp event.
Sarah has framed a number of good questions as a starting point which can facilitate a community dialogue and I'm sure people will get involved and contibute.
The issues of human dignity and equality are fundamental to human society and the healthy progess of society. We need to actively undertake a constructive inclusive dialgue, and we also need to develop and implement a (workable) action plan that will enable women in technology to participate on an equal footing, including at technology conferences and events.
Let's work together and get this done!
